The Law Offices of Shawn B. Hamp has created two new scholarships through the Mohave Community College Foundation — one for Paralegal Studies and the other for Criminal Justice Studies.  These first of their kind scholarships at MCC represent Mr. Hamp’s commitment to supporting educational attainment in Mohave County, stimulating economic prosperity by providing a portal to living wage jobs, and promoting social justice by supporting the next generation of legal professionals.

Students studying criminal justice often enter law enforcement, the judiciary, courts, or probation departments.  The Law Offices of Shawn B. Hamp believes that supporting the criminal justice system is fundamental in protecting our constitutional liberties and values.

Similarly, paralegals are a valuable resource for attorneys and the legal system.  Although paralegals function within the legal profession, it does not necessarily require the full skills and qualifications of an attorney. Paralegals facilitate “Equal Access to Justice” by reducing the cost of legal services across the board and by offering a low cost alternative for legal services to those with lower incomes.

Both scholarships are need-based and will be awarded on academic performance.  Mr. Hamp plans to offer these scholarships yearly, with the first scholarships to be awarded in Spring 2017.  Applications for Spring 2017 scholarships will be available in October and are due by December 1, 2016.

For information about applying for scholarships, go to: www.mohave.edu and click on “paying for college”.

Both the Paralegal and Criminal Justice programs are offered online in order to serve students throughout the County.  For questions about either the Criminal Justice or the Paralegal programs, please call 1.866.664.2832.
